New technology with Bioluminescence
Bioluminescent organisms are a target for many areas of research. Recently, there has been research done on bioluminescence for bioluminescent imaging. Bioluminescent imaging allows for a non-invasive study of ongoing biological processes in laboratory animals. Bioluminescence imaging utilizes light emission from one of several organisms which bioluminesce such as the firefly. The DNA encoding the luminescent protein is then incorporated into a laboratory animal using genetic engineering techniques. An example of the use of Bioluminescent imaging is studying Rodent models of cancer spread through bioluminescent imaging.
